The Merlion

This blog should have been posted yesterday but I was too tired so it was postponed till now when I was sitting in the Suntec convention center goofying for a bit after a long day of educational sessions.

It's been almost 36 hours since I landed in this tropical Southeast Asian country. As already been told by a United Airline staff who checked my bag at the Chicago airport, this country is indeed very very clean and beautiful, although I haven't been convinced yet about his remark of Singapore being the number one country in the world. But maybe it's arguable that the Changi airport is one the best worldwide (reference).

Singapre Changi airport

The instance I walked into the airport, I immediately felt like I was walking into the movie Crazy Rich Asian.

"I can't believe this airport (Changi) has a butterfly garden, JFK is just salmonella and despair" -- from Crazy Rich Asian

But once I stepped out of the airport, the 90% humidity made me miss Ann Arbor again. Luckily we called a cab via their local Uber, aka Grab, avoiding walking in the sauna heat. And I resolved my curiosity that if the driver's seat is on the right or left here.

On our way to the hotel, we were even lucky enough to see double rainbows!! 🌈🌈 .

When we got to the hotel, it was too earlier so we can't checked in yet. But we found out that we can refresh in the bathroom by the pool. And yes, this hotel has a pool!!

And then we set off to find some food. After almost two days of flight, real food in a nice local restaurant is exactly what we crave. But after half an hour of attempt, we realized that most of the street food either not open until 11am or only accept Singaporean cash...

Then just right before we were about to quit searching and give in to any fast food we can possibly find, we surprisingly found that there's a Haidi Pot in the mall.

Haidi Pot is a hotpot chain from China. For those who don't know what Haidi Pot means for Chinese people, I'd say it's just as important to us as Jerusalem to middle east. Just kidding. But my point is, it's probably the most iconic hotpot place in China.
